Please join for a ''rescheduled' HCKC trip tomorrow Sunday April 10th. With inclement weather and very low water conditions today on Sand Creek an alternative trip has been scheduled to replace the original. We will paddle 9.2 miles on the Vernon Fork Muscatatuck River with a meeting time of 1030 am. Sunny temps are expected to be in the low 60's with no chance of precipitation in sight. The meeting place will be at the Vernon Commons Park (Indiana's oldest) at the Dan Shade Access site (sign). It is located 2 blocks due east of the courthouse in Vernon, Delorme Atlas page 52 (E-2).. Heading south on SR 3&7 go past the courthouse and proceed straight (across the highway) and the road dead ends into the park and river. If you cross the bridge over the river turn around and go back We will have a gradient of 5.2 f.p.m. with mild rapids from the park to our take out at the Sullivan's Ford Bridge (CR 225 W). Numerous exposed rock bluffs reaching 100 feet are the main characteristic of this journey along with several sand/gravel bars and the entrance to the 206 year old Tunnel Mill opening. We will travel along the border of the ex-Muscatatuck State Park (Indiana's fourth in 1921) and through much of Crosley Fish & Wildlife Area. This area is often considered the finest section of the ole' Muscatatuck. Our shuttle is a short, easy 9 mile total. Vernon (smallest county seat in the state) is located 65 miles from downtown Indy. I will have my cell with me after leaving the house so please call if late.

Sincerely, Richard Tekulve canoeindiana@yahoo.com (812) 767-1317, trip leader since 2006.
