Sea/Touring Kayak Trip Announcement

Cave Run Lake, KY          Oct 6 - 9, 2022

We will camp at Twin Knobs Campground (or possibly Zilpo) and paddle Cave Run Lake.  Cave Run Lake is near Morehead, KY and is in the northern part of Daniel Boone National Forest. 

Driving distance: approximately 2 hr 15 min from Cincy

Schedule: Thursday evening, Oct. 6 – set up camp. Friday – Sunday, Oct. 7-9 – kayak (schedule TBD). 

Expected paddling conditions: Level 2 – Kayak Touring (see attached HCKC Sea Kayaking Trip Levels chart).

Paddlers should feel comfortable paddling in 2’ waves from all directions and be able to paddle 6-8 miles. While lake conditions are usually fairly calm, winds can whip up quickly producing waves. In the main part of the lake, boats and jet skis can produce pretty good chop.  

What to bring: paddling gear (including spray deck), camping gear, food for all meals, bike and fishing gear and any other outdoor equipment that you’d like. Average air temperatures for early October are 71F (high) and 41F (low). 

Boat requirements: kayaks with fore/aft bulkheads and perimeter deck lines are required.
