Canoe through the unspoiled, cool and clear spring-fed waters of the Mad River in Champaign County. Experience the flora and fauna along the river as we paddle. The Mad River is an excellent river for club members to enjoy in the heat of summer. The river in this area averages 2-3 feet deep, with some pools reaching 5 feet. The water is clear enough to see the river bottom your entire trip. It has a light current unless there has been significant rainfall. Short, shallow rapids along the way provide a pleasurable change of pace. Many families and groups have found the Mad River to be a great way to discover the wonderful enjoyment of canoeing in Ohio! This trip is family and beginner friendly, and open to all canoe kayak, and paddle board types. We will stay together as a group.
What to bring: Hand sanitizer, mask or face covering for shuttle, boat, PFD for all paddlers, paddles, plenty of water, sunscreen and insect repellent, sun hat, sunglases on lanyard, lunch for on the water, paddling gear (dry bag for valuables, bilge pump, sponge, spray skirt, knife, etc... as appropriate for your boat).
Trip notes:
-Please check email for additional messages on Friday the 24th in case we need to cancel or change the venue.
-The HCKC requires all paddlers participating in Club events to wear a PFD at all times while on the water.
-Ohio law does not allow open alcohol containers in vessels. Please leave any adult beverages in a cooler in your vehicle for after the paddle.
