DESCRIPTION: Summit Lake State Park is 2680 acres including an 800 acre lake, shady wooded areas and lots of open space where wildlife and bird watching abound.
Summit Lake State park is located northeast of New Castle and southeast of Muncie. The park is 1 mile north of State Highway 36 on Messick Road, 4 miles east of Highway 3.
LAUNCH SITE: Boat Ramp located near Boat Rental building- Turn left at T intersection just past the park gate entrance. (Both day paddle and moonlight paddle)
ITINERARY:Friday May 17 Arrive and camp overnight (optional) Saturday May 18 10:30am Be ready to launch. Daytime paddle and picnic lunch 3-4 hours. For the day paddle, the shorter recreational kayaks and canoes will paddle in a separate group from the sea kayaks, so this will be a good trip for all, including beginners.
7:30 pm Be ready to launch. Evening moonlight paddle 2-3 hours 5-6 miles. This will be a combined rec boat and sea kayak paddle. Campfire and Camping overnight (optional)
Summit Lake is less than an hour from Indianapolis so, those not interested in camping can join any part of the weekend
CAMPING: Several people have campsites located near the campground boat ramp and can accommodate a few tents. Contact trip sponsor to check availability. Additional campsites are reserved through Reserve America.
REGISTRATION: Please register on the club web site or email if necessary.
EQUIPMENT: PFD and safety equipment. A white light for your boat is required for the moonlight paddle.
GENERAL: You will need a 2019 Indiana DNR Nonmotorized Boat Permit available at park entrance or on line.
