Please join us for the annual Sand Creek trip on Saturday , April 13th. This year we will once again try to run the upper part which is very water dependent .Our scheduled put-in will be at the Robbins Iron Bridge Park access site on Decatur County CR 500 South. Our route will end at the Westport Covered bridge for a total of 10.4 miles with a gradient of 8.4 f.p.m. The meeting time is 10 AM and the total shuttle will be 19 miles round trip.It is about 58 miles one way from the center of Indy to the put-in. The best route is to take I-74 SE towards Greensburg to Exit 132/U.S. 421 and proceed two miles to the junction of S.R. 3.Turn right onto S.R. 3 and go 5 miles and turn left (south) at flasher where S.R. 46/3 split and take S.R. 3 south for 3 miles and turn left (east) onto CR 500 South (sign) and it is 1 3/4 miles to the old blue iron bridge with a small parking lot. Delorme atlas page 52 A3. Our second option will be the standard and traditional trip from Westport to Brewersville which is 12.0 miles and a meeting place at the Westport Covered Bridge/Dam access site which is located 2 miles east of S.R. 3 flasher/ Westport on County Road 1100 South Delorme page 52 B3. The Sand Creek trip is one of the clubs longestcontinuously scheduled events. The third option will be a stream to be named somewhere in SE Indiana as we have several to choose from within a 30 mile radius. The streams in this area are extremely water dependent as they can be perfect on Thursday and dry up on a Saturday. On Friday afternoon I will drive and scout Sand Creek in the upper headwaters and if needed other streams and will be available @ 7PM on Friday evening to answer any questions . Temperatures at this time of year can range from the 30's to 80's as we have paddled in fog, rain , sleet, humidity and snow ranging from headwinds to clear, sunny skies smothered with beautiful ''bluebells''. Please contact me at (812) 767-1317 or canoeindiana@yahoo.com . I will have my cell with me Saturday morning. Sincerely, trip leader Richard Tekulve.
