January 2024 HCKC Newsletter

Happy New Year Hoosier Paddlers!

Maybe you've noticed, or maybe not. But, we've launched a new newsletter format. Our goal was simple, keep it short and make it easier for you to read whether you're on a computer, tablet, or cell phone.

2023 was a great year for the club! Here's a quick recap.

60 Year Anniversary! In November, we celebrated 60 years of serving the Hoosier paddling community. Thank you to those who joined us for this major milestone.

Name Change: We made the decision to formally and legally become the Hoosier Canoe and Kayak Club which meant dissolving Hoosier Canoe Club. This change has no impact on our mission or members. It was a formality.

Updated Bylaws: As part of the process, we have updated our bylaws to align with our new name, mission, vision, operations, and commitment to members.

Increased Membership: We started 2023 with 321 and ended by adding 22 new members. To that we say, WELCOME!

COMMITTEE HIGHLIGHT

How does the club's get so much work done?

Committees!

Or should we say groups of volunteers working together to move HCKC forward. Our committees are designed to fulfill our mission, coordinate trips for members, offer training, keep members up-to-date, manage membership, and for HCKC to play a part in the conservation of Indiana's Waterways.

Here is our current list of Committees and Chair(s):

Trips Committee: Tim Owens
  • Canoe/Kayak: Judy Thompson
  • Sea Kayak: Linda Decker & Tony Pascuzzi
  • Whitewater: Jeremy Giddens

Safety and Training: Jim Heichelbech

Club Communications: Andrew Bredemeyer, Kaleen Wright, & Lauralee Hites

Membership: Dave Ellis

Conservation: Ben Larson

Technology: Jan Rugaber & Toni Harris

Stay tuned to learn more about each committee as we highlight their work throughout the year.
