Hoosiers are attending the Week of Rivers Event hosted by Carolina Canoe Club!!

SPONSORS: Steve & Sonja Mahon

This is a great paddling, networking and fun event run by the Carolina Canoe club.  Last year Sonja and I (Steve) met friends from PA, MD, FL, Texas, OH, NY and the list goes on!  You will need to sign up for the Carolina Canoe Club.  This is a total of $20 dollars for a family and will cover the whole year.  There is a meeting each morning @ 8:30 AM sharp (this meeting is similar to the meeting we had at Rock the Yough 2022), they will review the activities of the day, river water levels, rain, (this area has man reliable dam controlled runs as well!) clinics going on, and any announcements.  Volunteers, (this can be you or anyone,) & will then announce the river trips they are going on that day.  Once the meeting is over, each trip leader has a stick with a number and goes to stand by the individual river sign, they are posted on poles in the ground next to the pavilion.  It is helpful to bring a note pad to remember each trip number.  In the beginning of the week there are upwards of 15 to 20 trips going out.  You are responsible for yourself when joining onto a trip, IE the trip leaders can be anyone.  The leader is responsible for the information and coordination of getting to the river, they are not trained or licensed river guides.  The Hoosiers will have many options.

Hop on any of the trips announced, plan our own trips, have people join in on our trips.  For those that attend, we can plan on certain rivers/days but also have this as a free flow event since it is 9 days total.  This is a great opportunity to spend many days on the water and get time in your boat! That is the best way to improve.  Here is a link of an older Week of Rivers.  They now have a permanent pavilion but the format will be similar to this:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU8iIYnOEe4

This link is the best information that is out there.  There will be a guide posted and last year they had a 1st time WOR attendee Zoom meeting for questions and what to expect.  We will help guide first time week of river attendees as well,  as it can be a lot to take in. But once you’ve done it, you’ll understand the process.

4th of July
Each year there is a pirate fight on the Tuckaseegee!  This is a big water battle for the whole day.  The Tuck is class 2.

There is a large group of us that will be staying in a cabin located next to the Smokey Mountain Meadows Campground.  For days where we are hosting Hoosier club trips, we will more then likely meet at the cabin.

We may host a cook out for the Hoosier club one of the nights

We will not be sponsoring a trip on all 9 days.

Once there is a registered list we can send out and email and coordinate more specific details.

This is an amazing area of the country and a great are to paddle with reliable water sources for the middle of summer.

Dates: June 30th to July 9th

Location: Smokey Mountain Meadows Campground-  755 E Alarka Road, Bryson City, NC

You can camp here or other campgrounds nearby.  Sonja and I/with others will be in a cabin directly next to the campground.  We are friendly and will be happy to have you up to hang out on the porch.
